Module 1.4: The Future of HR
Most Important Criterion:
The business and HR focus on individuals.
Why?
Personally, this resonates with me because job searching intensifies as I approach graduation. In every webinar, sit-down, or interview with business leaders I’ve attended, the topic of employee talent always comes up. This is an important piece because I feel it opens the door to potential life-changing careers from an entry-level aspect. Many job listings are written up in a way that can be discouraging to applicants because of the complexity of the required/preferred job qualifications. There’s still a blurred line between entry-level and experienced job roles. Transparency between HR and business leaders should be reflected upon so on a company vacancy listing. The inability to differentiate business expectations can give a negative perception from outside potential employees and community stakeholders.
Least Important Criterion:
Choosing the correct HR department.
Why?
This should be an easy choice that requires less time to consider because a centralized or decentralized system is chosen based on how the business is organized. If the business is centralized, a single head of HR should handle the HR functions. If the business is decentralized, HR departments can be placed in every business unit. If the business is a combination of both, then the HR department should have a combined approach.
