4.3 - Blog: Application Tracking System (ATS)
For this blog, I found an HR Manager job posting on LinkedIn and Indeed that was based in New York. One job posting (LinkedIn) was for an HR Manager role with Aspen Dental, and the other was with
What appealed to you about the job board you selected? Take note of your experience while on the board. Was it easy to use? Overwhelming? Reflect on how you felt, the content, and the look and feel of the board. Note things that you deem favorable and less favorable.
The Positive
LinkedIn has a simple interface similar to that of other job boards, such as Monster and Indeed. I can efficiently utilize standard filters to search by experience level, location, company, job type, and industries. The most significant advantage is that the platform is a professional social media, and various employers and talent acquisition companies are active on the website. You're empowered to reach out within the company network when actively applying for a role.
The Negative
I don't like that I need a premium account to access skills or hiring insights from the company. Candidates shouldn't need to pay when looking for a job because employers should finance the talent pool. Additionally, there are no education filters. I'm unable to separate job postings based on the minimum education requirements. Using education filters is a good way to isolate hourly wages from salary.
Indeed
The Positive
Indeed has the same standard interface. However, there's an EDUCATION FILTER on the job board! There's even an "Encouraged to apply" filter to isolate Fair Chance, Military Encouraged, and Back-to-Work initiatives.
The Negative
As an employee candidate, there's no indication of employer engagement. You can apply for the position, receive a notification from Indeed confirming the application, but you're at the employer's mercy for a response. Sometimes, they never reply.
What appealed to you about the organizations and job roles that made you choose that particular one?
Aspen Dental (LinkedIn & Indeed)
People will always need healthcare and dental services, and there's a sense of job security associated with them. As a customer, looking in from the outside, I've personally experienced the team-oriented environment. HR professionals who handle the finances and scheduling actively collaborate with the dentists. The leadership appears approachable and values their employees.
On LinkedIn, a pay scale wasn't available for the listing. However, it was on Indeed for $106,000-$125,000. There may be a different compensation strategy available through LinkedIn, as job boards tend to be more active.
How would you showcase your organization to candidates and employees? If you were the CEO, what would you like your employer brand to look like?
As the CEO, I'd reinforce clear career paths and employee empowerment. Financial stability starts with expected wages and benefits for the position. Then, the job role should accurately reflect the position and stay updated with emerging technologies. Transparency eliminates the guesswork from negotiations. Next, stakeholder authenticity, from the customer to the shareholder, would provide an internal look into the company's culture. Tangible employee activity snapshots or videos showcasing work-life balance give an appealing sense of purpose while employees still enjoy their personal lifestyles.
